Owlcat Games Moves Into Publishing and Gains Control of Meta Publishing Label
RPG developer Owlcat Games, the studio behind Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader and Pathfinder, has announced plans to become a publisher of indie games. Two RPGs have been signed. Owlcat has also taken full control of the Meta Publishing label.
In addition to its own development efforts, Owlcat will also focus on helping independent teams bring their RPGs and narrative-driven games to gamers worldwide. After reviewing more than 50 projects, Owlcat has signed contracts with two development teams: Emotion Spark Studio, based in Serbia, and Another Angle Games, based in Poland. Emotion Spark Studio is working on a narrative role-playing game called Rue Valley. Another Angle Games is developing an isometric RPG in an alternate history setting of feudal Japan called Shadow of the Road. Both titles are in the early stages of development, with more information to be revealed at gamescom later this month.
"We would like to work with teams that share our passion for telling captivating stories through narrative-driven games. These might not fall entirely into the RPG genre, but they will definitely have a solid focus on story, characters, and worldbuilding. We have already walked the path of creating our dream game, and now we have the expertise and resources to guide other teams to the games of their dreams as well," says Andrey Tsvetkov, Head of Publishing at Owlcat Games.
Owlcat Games has also gained full control of the Meta Publishing label, which acted as publishing partner to bring Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous to PC and console storefronts in 2021. The label has a portfolio of published games including Biped, Spirit of the Island, Train Valley, Train Valley 2 and more. New upcoming titles will be revealed at gamescom, including Biped 2 and Nested Lands.
